Many-body wave scattering by small bodies and creating materials with a desired refraction coefficient

چکیده
Many-body scattering problem is solved asymptotically when the size of the particles tends to zero and the number of the particles tends to infinity. A method is given for calculation of the number of small particles and their boundary impedances such that embedding of these particles in a bounded domain, filled with known material, results in creating a new material with a desired refraction coefficient. The new material may be created so that it has negative refraction, that is, the group velocity in this material is directed opposite to the phase velocity. Another possible application consists of creating the new material with some desired wave-focusing properies. For example, one can create a new material which scatters plane wave mostly in a fixed given solid angle. In this application it is assumed that the incident plane wave has a fixed frequency and a fixed incident direction. An inverse scattering problem with scattering data given at a fixed wave number and at a fixed incident direction is formulated and solved. Acoustic and electromagnetic (EM) wave scattering problems are discussed. REFERENCES: 1) A.G.Ramm, Wave scattering by small bodies of arbitrary shapes, World Sci. Electromagnetic wave scattering by many small bodies and creating materials with a desired refraction coefficient
Electromagnetic wave scattering by many small particles is studied. An integral equation is derived for the self-consistent field E in a medium, obtained by embedding many small particles into a given region D. The derivation of this integral equation uses a lemma about convergence of certain sums. These sums are similar to Riemannian sums for the integral equation for E. Convergence of these s...

In this paper the author’s invited plenary talk at the 7-th PACOM (PanAfrican 1 Congress of Mathematicians), is presented. Asymptotic solution to many-body wave scat2 tering problem is given in the case of many small scatterers. The small scatterers can be 3 particles whose physical properties are described by the boundary impedances, or they can 4 be small inhomogeneities, whose physical prope...

A rigorous reduction of the many-body wave scattering problem to solving a linear algebraic system is given bypassing solving the usual system of integral equation. The limiting case of infinitely many small particles embedded into a medium is considered and the limiting equation for the field in the medium is derived. The impedance boundary conditions are imposed on the boundaries of small bod...

A collocation method is formulated and justified for numerical solution of the Fredholm second-kind integral equations. As an application the Lippmann-Schwinger equation is considered. The results obtained provide an error estimate and a justification of the limiting procedure used in the earlier papers by the author, dealing with many-body scattering problems in the case of small scatterers, a...

Theory of wave scattering by many small bodies is developed under various assumptions concerning the ratio ad , where a is the characteristic dimension of a small body and d is the distance between neighboring bodies d = O(aκ1), 0 < κ1 < 1. On the boundary Sm of every small body an impedance-type condition is assumed ∂uM ∂N = ζmuM on Sm, 1 ≤ m ≤ M , ζm = hma, 0 < κ, hm are constants independent...
